CREDIT RISK OFFICER
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Credit Risk Officer, you will be responsible for assessing, monitoring, and managing the credit risk exposure of the organization. This role ensures that all credit activities comply with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and risk management frameworks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct credit risk evaluations for new and existing customers, assessing financial stability, repayment ability, and industry-related risks.
- Analyse financial statements, credit reports, and loan documentation to determine creditworthiness.
- Establish and monitor risk limits, ensuring adherence to internal risk appetite frameworks.
- Ensure compliance with internal credit policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Develop and implement credit risk policies, frameworks, and procedures.
- Assist in preparing regulatory and management reports on credit risk exposures.
- Monitor loan performance and identify early warning signs of potential defaults.
- Conduct periodic risk reviews on the loan portfolio to assess overall credit risk exposure.
- Generate risk reports and recommend action plans to mitigate potential financial losses.
- Maintain risk databases and ensure accuracy in reporting credit risk metrics.
- Work closely with Relationship Managers and Credit Analysts to ensure sound credit decision-making.
- Provide risk advisory support to business units to enhance credit risk awareness.
- Collaborate with auditors and regulators in credit risk audits and inspections.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance risk management efficiency.
REQUIREMENTS
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business Administration, or related field.
- A professional certification (e.g., CFA, FRM, CPA) is an advantage.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in credit risk management, lending, or compliance within the banking or financial services industry.
- Excellent and strong understanding of credit risk assessment methodologies and strategy, financial statement analysis, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
- Proficiency in credit risk modelling, financial analysis tools, and risk management software.
- Experience with Basel III guidelines, IFRS 9, and other risk regulations is preferred.
- Ability to assess borrower creditworthiness, conduct due diligence, and apply risk mitigation strategies.
- Understanding of risk management tools, portfolio risk modelling, and stress testing techniques.
- Expertise in financial regulations, credit policies, and risk governance frameworks.
- Ability to analyse large datasets and generate insightful risk reports.
- Familiarity with local banking regulations and international risk management standards.
- Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (word, excel, power point, etc.)
