We are currently seeking an Electrical Leading Hand to join our team, permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 15/13 Roster fromKavieng/Rabaul/PortMoresby/Lae/MtHagen/Buka/Madang/Goroka/Alotau/Wapenamanda/Popondetta/Hoskins/ Vanimo/ Wewak or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).
Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor.
The Electrical Leading Hand Support the Electrical Supervisor with managing team, to ensure effective and responsive maintenance support is provided to Simberi Operations to safely achieve the equipment availability and asset utilisation essential for optimum process, including both mining and processing surface infrastructure within the operations. Act as Supervisor undertaking all responsibilities to that of the Electrical Supervisor during their absence from site.
The opportunity
Technical accountabilities
- Ensuring safe work practices, own health and safety and all other workers by identifying hazards and ensuring issues and risks are reported and addressed.
- Providing Efficient and effective secondary supervision in support of the Electrical Supervisor to Simberi Operations to ensure that the processing plant can always operate optimally.
- Contributing and assisting the Electrical Supervisor in the Maintenance Section to ensure that the Processing Department delivers to plan in respect of production, gold recovery and cost per ton.
- Ensuring all statutory requirements of the role are met around classified plant.
- Ensuring all tasks are carried out in an environmentally sustainable manner.
- Contributing productively as a member of the Simberi Maintenance Team.
- Checking teams completed works to avoid unplanned breakdowns and re-work.
- Assist the Electrical Supervisor in liaising with Suppliers and contractors to achieve deadlines.
- Carry out any and all reporting assigned to you by the Electrical Supervisor.
- Support the Electrical Supervisor with Plant Maintenance.
Scheduling accountabilities
- Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the team/crew.
- Reporting HSEC incidents and investigated to identify appropriate controls required.
People accountabilities
- Contributing to the development of capability within the team/crew.
- Ensuring all team members are accountable for compliance of implemented Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, operating procedures, and compliance to other external agency regulatory requirements.
- Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements; and taking appropriate professional development actions.
- Ensuring outputs and development of the team/crew.

We would love to hear from you if you have:
Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
- Trade qualifications and must have valid PNG Power Electrician license
- Minimum 4 years experience in maintaining machinery
- Must have current Drivers Licence and experienced driver
- Understand relevant engineering standards and associated procedures
- Must have PNG Power license
- At least 3-5 years experience
- Self-motivated
- Relevant qualifications in the maintenance field
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively manage time
- A continuous improvement approach to all tasks
- Developing initiative and problem solving skills
- Field experience
- Prepared to accept responsibility
- Competent in electrical fault finding
- Willing to work additional hours during break downs
- Good co-operation with mechanical, operations and other departments
Desirable
- PLC Fault finding experience
- Process Instrumentation experience
