Senior Lecturer, Research & Postgraduate Studies

The Organisation:

Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is owned and operated by the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The institution is accredited to the Adventist Accreditation Association, an international denominational authority for all tertiary and graduate educational programs and institutions owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church entities. The main campus is located on the pristine Koiari Park, 14 miles outside Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The institution was established in 1984. Since then, it has grown from a college of 20 students to a university of over 1000 students from across the Pacific.

The Role:

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Research & Postgraduate Studies, the Senior Lecturer provides academic leadership in research and postgraduate education, contributing to the advancement of Pacific Adventist University’s mission of academic excellence, faith-driven service, and community impact. The role involves teaching, supervising postgraduate students, conducting high-quality research, and supporting the development of institutional research capacity.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver postgraduate courses in research methodology and discipline-specific areas.
  • Supervise master’s and doctoral students, ensuring timely completion and quality outcomes.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to postgraduate students
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research projects.
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
  • Seek external funding and partnerships to support research initiatives.
  • Participate in curriculum design, review, and quality assurance processes.
  • Serve on academic committees and contribute to policy development.
  • Ensure compliance with research ethics and governance frameworks.
  • Promote research that addresses regional and national development priorities.
  • Engage with external stakeholders to strengthen PAU’s impact.
  • Support faith-based initiatives that integrate scholarship with service.

About you:

Qualifications and Skills required:

  • PhD qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of 5-10 years teaching & research experience
  • Experience in postgraduate teaching and supervision, and a record of research and publication in the respective teaching areas will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
  • Proven success in supervising master’s and doctoral students to completion.
  • Experience in securing and managing research grants or funded projects.
  • Familiarity with higher education governance, quality assurance, and research ethics.
  • The capacity to undertake teaching autonomously at a high standard is essential.
  • Experience in leadership or administrative roles within academic or professional settings
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment.
