About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. To safely carry out maintenance and repairs to all equipment associated with the Newmont In-pit fleet as directed by the supervisor. And ensure that all plant and equipment is maintained to Newmont's requirements and meet all safety, availability, and production target KPI’s.
- To provide mechanical fitting services on mobile fleet units within an open pit environment
- Specific focus is to be on Shovels & Drills.
- Ensure personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirements & policies including Fitness for Work.
- Complete any HSE tasks only if the hazards and any potential consequences are understood and any corrections are firstly agreed by the relevant Supervisor.
- Display behavior consistent with Newmont Values.
- Provide ongoing daily services in inspecting, fault-finding/troubleshooting, repairing and testing mechanical equipment on mobile fleet as required.
- Ensure documentation, maintenance and service records for equipment are complete and kept up to date
- Actively seek cost reduction opportunities and identifies & reports any cost wastage within designated area.
- Work constructively within a diverse group of people.
- Deliver consistently on commitments and takes accountability for own development.
- 3 – 5 years relevant work experience essential in heavy industry preferably within a mining environment.
- Experience with the following equipment will be looked upon favorably; Hitachi 2600, O&K RH200,Cat 6020 & 6060 Dig units, Epiroc D65 drill, D55 Sandvik drills, Epiroc/Atlas Copco PV271 or 231 Pit Viper Rotary Blast Hole Drill.
- Trade Certificate in Heavy Equipment Fitter or equivalent.
- Relevant tertiary qualification advantageous.
- PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6 essential.
- Previous experience in delivery and assessment of training desirable.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.
- High attention to detail with good time management skills.
- Strong active listening & interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate personal responsibility for own health and safety and develop an understanding of the legal requirement, HSE standards and standard operating procedures relevant to direct work area.
- Work well with others, listen actively, seek inputs and ask clarification questions to check understanding staying focused and composed in a variety of work situations.
- Effectively manage own time to complete tasks in line with job expectations and requirements adjusting plans to cater for unforeseen events / disruptions.
- Recognise problems and proactively work toward resolution under the guidance of immediate Supervisor.
- Recognise opportunities to minimise waste and addresse it according to the HSE and operational standards and practices.
The position is in Lihir at the Mobile Fleet Maintenance Shovel Pad.
