Summary

The Junior Structural Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design, analysis, and execution of structural engineering projects. They will work closely with Senior Structural Engineers and other team members to develop cost-effective and efficient structural solutions for various projects, including buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure. The Junior Structural Engineer will also contribute to developing and implementing departmental procedures and improvements to increase productivity, quality, and overall performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Perform structural analysis and design tasks under the supervision of Senior Structural Engineers.

  2. Assist in the preparation of technical reports, design calculations, and construction documents.

  3. Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other project stakeholders to ensure that structural designs meet project requirements

    and objectives.

  4. Participate in the review and evaluation of structural designs, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance with applicable

    codes, standards, and best practices.

  5. Conduct site visits and inspections to gather relevant data, verify design assumptions, and monitor construction progress.

  6. Support project management activities, such as budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.

  7. Contribute to the continuous improvement of departmental procedures, guidelines, and best practices.

  8. Attend relevant industry conferences, workshops, and training sessions to stay current on developments in structural engineering

    and related fields.

  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Structural Engineer or Engineering Manager.

  10. Prior internship or work experience in a structural engineering role.

  11. Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, such as Revit or Tekla Structures.

  12. Knowledge of sustainable and resilient design principles and practices.

Job Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.

  2. At least 2 years of working experience in Structural Engineering or related fields.

  3. Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, RISA, etc.)

  4. Familiarity with relevant design codes and standards, such as AS/NZ1170, AS/NZ4600, and NCC.

  5. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  7. Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.

  8. Prior internship or work experience in a structural engineering role.

  9. Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, such as Revit or Tekla Structures.

  10. Knowledge of sustainable and resilient design principles and practices.

Additional Information

Procedure and Improvements Implementation:

  1. Develop and maintain departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent and high-quality project delivery.

  2. Implement a peer review process for design calculations and drawings to minimize errors and improve overall quality.

  3. Establish a knowledge-sharing platform to facilitate the exchange of ideas, best practices, and lessons learned among team members.

  4. Develop a structured training and development program for Junior Structural Engineers to enhance their skills and knowledge.

  5. Implement project management tools and techniques to improve project delivery efficiency and effectiveness.

  6. Regularly review and update design guidelines, templates, and checklists to reflect changes in codes, standards, and best practices.

  7. Conduct periodic performance evaluations to identify areas for improvement and set performance goals for Junior Structural Engineers.

  8. Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging team members to share their ideas and suggestions for enhancing departmental performance.
