The PNG Red Cross Society was established by an Act of Parliament in 1976, hence, recognizing the National Society as an auxiliary to the government in its humanitarian services in the country. While complementing the role of the government and providing humanitarian assistance where needed, the PNGRCS ensure that its operations are guided by the RCRC Seven Fundamental Principles.
The National Society has its Headquarters in Port Moresby, and has a network of 12 branches, 1 interim branch and 1 sub-branch established in 13 out of the 22 provinces of the country. The NS has a total of 35 employees, 17 paid staff at the HQ, 11 staff for the Special Education Resource Centre, and 7 staff for the branches. The National Society has over 700 volunteers nationwide.
