The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based intergovernmental organization founded in 2012 to support and promote a model of economic growth known as "green growth", which targets key aspects of economic performance such a poverty reduction, job creation, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. GGGI works with countries around the world, building their capacity and working collaboratively on green growth policies that can impact the lives of millions. GGGI partners with countries, multilateral institutions, government bodies, and private sector to help build economies that grow strongly and are more efficient and sustainable in the use of natural resources, less carbon intensive, and more resilient to climate change.

GGGI has 40 member countries and Papua New Guinea (PNG) is one of the founding members of GGGI.

GGGI started operation in PNG in 2018. GGGI PNG’s mission is to support the Government of PNG to mainstream green growth, climate resilience, gender equality, and social inclusion intentional approaches, as well as to support the country for accessing and scaling up of green finance through bankable green investment projects and a blend of innovative financial instruments. This involves collaborating with all stakeholders towards delivering PNG’s enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), SDG Roadmap of 30 Action by 2030, and PNG’s ambition to be net-zero emissions in 2050. Capacity strengthening for national, provincial, and local government, including communities and other civil society stakeholders is also at the core of GGGI’s work in Papua New Guinea.
