CUFA (formerly Credit Union Foundation Australia) was created in 1971 and is the Australian Credit Union Movement’s development agency working across the Asia Pacific region. It is a not-for-profit organisation focusing on strengthening communities and developing people through access to affordable financial services through credit unions.
CUFA is a development agency with a focus on promoting financial inclusion, increasing financial literacy and improving economic livelihoods. CUFA has been developing access to affordable financial services in the Asia-Pacific region for over 40 years, working cooperatively at grass-roots through to government levels, building capacity in emerging financial cooperative movements to create sustainability, improve lives and relieve property.
CUFA has an office in Sydney and four international offices in Fiji (serving the greater Pacific), Timor Leste, Cambodia and Myanmar where local staff are employed to: implement programs and to work with communities, financial cooperatives, and financial federations and governments: to build capacity of the financial movement: and to promote financial inclusion of the poorest of the poor which is achieved through educational programs.
CUFA is now focussed on delivering a new initiative in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea. The ‘Rot Bilong Ol Yangpla Blo Bihain Taim’ project will be a youth-focused initiative aimed at improving the livelihoods and employment opportunities of Bougainville’s youth through a community based development program.
