Program Overview:
The Australia–Papua New Guinea Economic Partnership (APEP) is a flagship partnership supporting Papua New Guinea’s economic development priorities. Delivered by the Government of Australia in close collaboration with the Government of Papua New Guinea, APEP focuses on strengthening economic systems, institutions, and opportunities that support sustainable and inclusive growth through to 2028.
Working alongside government, research institutions, and development partners, APEP delivers coordinated and high‑impact outcomes across four key engagement areas:
- Safeguarding Macroeconomic Stability
- Supporting More Efficient and Inclusive Markets
- Fostering Inclusive Growth and Expanded Livelihoods
- Catalysing Economic Research and Dialogue
Gender equality, disability social inclusion (GEDSI), women’s economic empowerment, and climate are central to APEP and integrated across all engagement areas and activities.
Position Overview:
The position is responsible for developing a range of communications products and supporting the delivery of public diplomacy (PD) events. The role will require a high level of expertise and skills in writing for external audiences and stakeholders, as well as photography skills. The role will report to the Communications Adviser and work closely with all members of the communications team to deliver effective communications support across all the APEP workstreams.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Prepare high-quality content for a variety of communication formats, including media releases, reports, talking points, and social media content including short videos.
- Ensure that all written content is consistent with DFAT’s style guide and branding protocols.
- Plan and develop communications products which promote the impact of APEP’s support.
- Attend events and forums as required to capture content for communications products.
- Engage closely with all APEP workstreams to proactively monitor upcoming events and PD opportunities.
- Develop creative communication materials for a range of projects, such as events, campaigns and launches.
- Work closely with the communications team to create innovative and impactful communications products.
- Engage with the DFAT Communications and PD team as required – this may include attending contractor meetings and forums.
- Manage the partnership brand in line with DFAT guidelines.
- Develop and deliver communications training to APEP team members as required.
- Contribute to reporting, administration, data collection and other tasks as directed by the Communications Adviser
- Implement relevant components of the APEP GEDSI strategy into all communications products.
- Any other reasonable duties as required.
Selection Criteria:
For applications to be considered, a response to the Selection Criteria below should be provided.
- A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related area is preferred.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in communications and marketing, ideally within a development context.
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills through extensive experience in writing and editing for a variety of media platforms and diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated capability to offer technical communications guidance and assistance to APEP teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Mailchimp.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as a member of a team
- Consistently demonstrated dedication to GEDSI, climate considerations, and safeguarding as integral cross-cutting priorities for APEP.
