Accountant, Senior – Capital Projects

The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Capital & Projects Department as Accountant, Senior – Capital Projects.

About the role

The Senior Accountant in the Capital and Projects Department, you will play a critical role in managing and overseeing the financial aspects of capital projects within the company. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance with financial regulations, contributing to the successful delivery of capital projects.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the development, forecasting, reporting, and governance of the NPL capital portfolio.

  • Manage capital budget and forecast processes, including annual budget development, monthly reforecasts, latest estimates, cash flow phasing, and carryover tracking.

  • Develop and maintain project budgets, and cost forecasts aligned with approved scope, schedule, and execution timeframes.

  • Monitor and analyse capital performance, including spend versus budget, commitments, forecast accuracy, and cash flow performance.

  • Prepare detailed capital reporting packs, dashboards (PowerBi), variance analysis, and commentary for site leadership and corporate stakeholders.

  • Support the preparation and review of Authority for Expenditure (AFE) requests, business cases, and financial evaluations, including NPV, IRR and paybacks.

  • Prepare detailed financial reports, including cost analysis, variance analysis, and forecasting

  • Partner with project managers, engineering, technical services, operations, supply chain, and finance teams to provide financial insights and decision support across the project lifecycle.

  • Assist with project control, including project setup, WBS structures, cost coding, commitments tracking, and capital versus operating expenditure classification.

  • Ensure compliance with financial policies, capital governance framework, Delegation of Authority (DOA), and internal control requirements.

  • Identify opportunities to improve capital reporting, forecasting accuracy, systems integration, and portfolio governance processes.

  • Provide mentorship and support to junior personnel where required.

  • Maintain a high level of health, safety, environmental, and community awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies, standards, and procedures.

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, Business, or a related discipline.

  • CPA, CA, or progress toward professional qualification preferred.

  • Experience in financial analysis, management accounting, audit, advisory, FP&A, commercial finance, or related fields.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to interpret financial and operational data.

  • Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Suite including Excel

  • Experience working with SAP, Power BI, OneStream, or similar platforms is advantageous.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

  • High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Demonstrated initiative and adaptability to a changing environment

  • Exposure to capital projects, project controls, budgeting, forecasting, or business case development is desirable but not essential.

  • Mining, construction, or heavy industry experience is advantageous but not essential

Mobilization Requirement

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months). Candidates must be PNG Nationals and available to start immediately. Females are encouraged to apply.
