Position Title: Accountant

Reports To: Finance Manager

Location: Christian Leaders Training College (CLTC) Banz, Jiwaka Province

Job Purpose

The Accountant is responsible for supporting the Finance Manager in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and contributing to effective financial management and reporting within CLTC. The role plays a key part in safeguarding the organization’s financial integrity and supporting informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including journals, ledgers, and reconciliations.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Support the Finance Manager in budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of financial statements.

Accounts & Reconciliation

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments.
  • Perform regular bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain proper documentation and filing of all financial transactions.

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
  • Assist in strengthening internal controls and financial systems.
  • Support audit processes by preparing required documentation and responding to audit queries.

Payroll & Statutory Obligations

  • Assist in payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including tax, superannuation, and other regulatory obligations.

Financial Analysis

  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Monitor expenditure trends and provide recommendations for cost control and efficiency.

General Support

  • Support the Finance Manager in day-to-day financial operations.
  • Liaise with internal departments to ensure proper financial procedures are followed.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ relevant accounting experience.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is an advantage.
  • Experience working in corporate, NGO, or development sector environments is desirable.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
