ACCOUNTING ASSOCIATE
Department: Finance & Accounts
Reports To: Finance Operations Manager / Chief Financial Officer (where necessary)
Location: Lae, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea
POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting Associate is a full-time position responsible for maintaining accurate and timely financial records of the company and supporting the Finance & Accounts Department in the day-to-day accounting operations.
Working within a shipping and logistics environment, the position will handle general ledger activities, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, invoicing, expense monitoring, financial reporting, and other accounting duties. The officer will work closely with operations, procurement, commercial, and management teams to ensure that financial transactions related to vessels, freight, cargo, port operations, suppliers, customers, and other company activities are properly recorded and supported.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general accounting and financial controls.
- Assist with monitoring accounts payables and accounts receivables.
- Assist with Banking and Reconciliations.
- Coordinate with relevant departments in reviewing and proper recording of internal and external transactions.
- Assist in preparing monthly financial reporting.
- Ensure accounting activities comply with company policies, applicable accounting standards, and statutory requirements.
QUALIFICATION and EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- Must have the Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant accounting experience with strong expertise in General Accounting, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable, preferably within shipping, logistics, transportation, trading, or a similar industry.
- Good understanding of general accounting principles and financial controls.
- Experience with accounting software/ERP systems.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Desirable:
- Experience in vessel, voyage, freight, port, or logistics accounting.
- Knowledge of accounts payable and receivable processes.
- Experience with financial reporting and reconciliations.
- Membership or progress toward a professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CA, or equivalent.

- Good understanding of Excel and accounting systems.
