Accounting Supervisor

Summer Institute of Linguistics Papua New Guinea (SIL-PNG) has an exciting opportunity for someone who wants a challenge and change of scenery to live in Ukarumpa, Kainantu and become part of a dynamic team supporting the work of Bible Translation. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to fill the Accounting Supervisor position role with a servant heart.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all the Branch accounting operations. This position reports directly to the Chief of Finance (COF) and the Finance Office Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and manage a team of accountants, providing guidance, training and performance evaluations
• Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements
• Oversee month –end and year-end- close processes ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled meeting deadlines
• Reviewing work papers and adjustments prepared by other accounting staff
• Creating accounting journal entries as needed to record and correct financial transactions
• Providing internal control functions for the branch and Identify areas for process improvements and implement best practices in accounting operations
• Making accruals and adjustments
• Reconciling accounts as required
• May prepare schedules needed for the SIL International Finance Office to prepare the consolidated financial
• May prepare reports required internally and externally
• Responsible for maintaining PMC as required
• Responsible for maintaining WIP Accounts/Fixed Assets as required
• Optimizing financial procedures within SIL PNG, including Departments
• Collaborate with internal and external auditors during audits and resolve any audit issues
• Performing other finance related duties as assigned by the COF

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in a related field with a CPA
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in a similar role
• Strong understanding of accounting principles
• Proficient in accounting software ( e.g. Sage ) or NetSuite and Microsoft Excel
• Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
