Accounts Officer / Assistant Student Finance Officer

The Organisation:

Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is owned and operated by the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The institution is accredited to the Adventist Accreditation Association, an international denominational authority for all tertiary and graduate educational programs and institutions owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church entities. The main campus is located on the pristine Koiari Park, 14 miles outside Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The institution was established in 1984. Since then, it has grown from a college of 20 students, to a university of over 1000 students from across the Pacific.

The Role:

Reporting to the Accounts Receivable Team Leader, the Accounts Officer / Assistant Student Finance Officer is responsible for assisting the Student Finance Officer in the collection of fee income, financial clearance for students prior to enrolment, billing of fees to student accounts, liaising with sponsors, financial reporting and other duties as required.

Core responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Student Finance Officer in the collection of fee income, financial clearance for students prior to enrolment, billing of fees to student accounts, liaising with sponsors, financial reporting and other duties as required
  • Be thoroughly familiar with university policies and procedures related to student finances.
  • Assist in registration to ensure students receive proper financial clearance.
  • Process student fee invoices accurately and efficiently.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements in a timely manner.
  • Assist students with financial consultations and inquiries.
  • Aid in debt collection efforts and follow up with sponsors.
  • Assist in collecting debts from other debtors.

About you:

Qualifications and Skills required:

  • Diploma in Accounting or related field from a recognized tertiary institution; a Bachelor’s Degree will be viewed favourably
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Student Finance in a University setting or Accounts Receivable role, preferably in a university setting is desirable
  • Proficiency in Accounting Software, preferably Attache’ Accounting Software
