About the Role

PNGUNRE invites applications from suitably qualified and motivated candidates for appointment as Administrative Assistant within the Department of Forestry, School of Natural Resources.

The position is based at the Vudal Campus, East New Britain Province, and provides essential administrative and clerical support to ensure the effective day-to-day operation of the Department. The role supports academic, research, and student activities through efficient office administration, record management, and communication support.

The appointee will report directly to the Head of Department, Forestry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general office administration support, including managing correspondence, filing systems, and departmental documentation.
  • Assist students with enquiries, forms, and routine departmental administrative processes.
  • Support basic financial administration, including procurement requests, budget tracking, and expense documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of staff, students, and departmental activities in accordance with university requirements.
  • Draft official correspondence, notices, and departmental communications.
  • Monitor office supplies and liaise with procurement and central services for replenishment.
  • Assist with departmental reporting and ensure compliance with university administrative and policy requirements.
  • Support meetings, workshops, and departmental activities as required.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably directed by the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Management, or a closely related discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an administrative or clerical role, preferably within an academic or public sector environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email systems, and basic database management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (Tok Pisin proficiency is an advantage).
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Professional interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with staff, students, and external stakeholders.
  • High standards of integrity, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities.
