About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Your Impact
As an Advisor - Planning & Scheduling, you will provide specialist expertise to optimise mobile mining equipment performance and reduce costs across our operations. Your work will ensure safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance Planning and Scheduling acumen that directly supports Newmont’s commitment to operational excellence, safety, and sustainable performance.
As part of our team, you will
- Deliver Planning and Scheduling programs aligned with the Asset Management Plan (AMP) – Mobile.
- Analyse data to maximise scheduled maintenance, optimise downtime, and improve cost-effectiveness.
- Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with computerized maintenance management systems, regulations, and statutory requirements.
- Liaise with mobile maintenance engineering and execution teams to align with our global Work Management standards.
- Coach and mentor team members in Planning and Scheduling processes, procedures and practices.
- Advocate for consistent adoption and deployment of the company-wide Work Management standard.
- Provide input into maintenance strategies, plans, and tactics for senior leadership.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in Asset Management.
- Assess risks, apply mitigation measures, and monitor cost avoidance opportunities.
Prerequisites for your success in this role
You are an experienced Planning & Scheduling professional with a strong technical foundation and a passion for mentoring and developing people. You bring proven expertise in delivering safe, efficient, and compliant Planning and Scheduling solutions across mobile mining equipment and asset management systems.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, a relevant Trade qualification, or equivalent experience, with practical exposure to mobile mining operations.
- Extensive experience in Planning and Scheduling roles, including developing and delivering work programs, forecasting, and budgeting.
- Hands-on experience with CMMS systems, preferably SAP, with familiarity in other similar CMMS systems considered an advantage.
- Strong technical skills in risk management, data analytics, contractor/vendor management, and document control.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, site operational requirements, and work management standards, including best practice methodologies.
- Proven coaching, mentoring, and knowledge transfer experience, with the ability to develop a national workforce and support personal development in a culturally diverse environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills, enabling you to build strong relationships and foster collaboration.
- Previous experience in people management or training functions, with a focus on empowering and developing team members an advantage.
- Exposure to international or cross-industry environments, with openness to candidates from mining, aviation, oil and gas, or other relevant industries.
- A demonstrated ability to problem-solve, adapt to new challenges, and introduce best practice initiatives, while promoting safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

Your work environment
Join us on a 22:20 Fly-In, Fly-Out (FIFO) day shift roster from Australia or PNG to Lihir Island.
Our FIFO employees stay in a secure and comfortable camp, in an en-suited and airconditioned room equipped with mini fridge, TV and Wi-Fi. A variety of healthy meal options are catered for at our mess; and the wet mess provides a relaxed social setting where employees can unwind with a game of pool or darts.
We offer a range of recreational activities including our on-site gym and basketball court. Paid members can access the Lihir Club which has a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, restaurant/bar area and deck with amazing Pacific Ocean views! Our café and deli are available for take away coffees and snacks, as well as local and imported grocery items (inc. fresh fruit).
