About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Purpose
Our Lihir operation in the Health and Safety unit is now recruiting for the position of Advisor, Process Safety. Reporting to the Director, Health & Safety, the successful candidate will be able to implement Process Safety strategies and provide technical subject matter expertise to operational leaders to improve Process Safety performance.
Essential Duties
- Implementation of strategies to manage process safety risks for Lihir Operations. Contribution to the development of Process Safety Management Plans.
- Contribution to the development of and support implementation of process safety management systems (e.g. MOC, bridges and forces, operational readiness).
- Contribution to the development of and implementation of the framework for process safety risk management, including Bowtie risk analysis, integration into Material Risk, etc.
- Facilitate HAZOP studies and operational risk assessments
- Providing operational support and expertise to Operations Managers, Superintendents, and Supervisors about process safety matters, including reporting and investigating process safety incidents
- Performing first-level assurance activities for the Process Safety Standard and Process Safety related systems such as Management of Change
- Monitoring and maintaining process safety metrics to evaluate Process Safety Performance.
Training & Experience
Experience:
- Seven-plus relevant years of working experience in a large-scale mining industry
- Deep understanding of Process Plant Operations and approaches to mitigate Process Safety risk
- Formal qualifications in Health & Safety (e.g., NEBOSH) are advantageous
- Substantial practical operational experience.
Skills & Abilities:
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.
- High attention to detail with good time management skills
- Completes concrete procedural tasks
- Follows procedural steps to complete work
- Uses practical judgment to overcome problems or requests assistance
- Sees alternatives based on trial & error
Working Conditions
- Must be open to a 22:20 rosters
- Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
- Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months
