About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Your Impact

As an Advisor, you will play a key role in driving the long-term reliability and performance of the Oxygen Plant’s electrical and instrumentation systems. You will lead and support maintenance teams to achieve KPI compliance, foster continuous improvement, and ensure safe and efficient operations. With a strong focus on statutory compliance, legislative requirements, and plant upgrades, you will contribute to the ongoing optimisation and resilience of critical plant infrastructure.

As Part of Our Team, You Will

  • Champion proactive safety behaviors and ensure HSE compliance
  • Ensure Compliance to EIGA, AS and Mining Legislative Requirements
  • Have experience with Mines Inspector and Insurance audits
  • Develop and coach team members through feedback and training
  • Provide technical support for maintenance on three oxygen plants
  • Monitor and supervise maintenance activities to maximize productivity
  • Select, install, and commission electrical equipment and instrumentation
  • Recommend upgrades and improvements for plant control systems
  • Manage documentation and contribute to preventative maintenance strategies
  • Deliver work within budget and seek cost reduction opportunities

Prerequisites for Your Success in This Role

  • Dual Electrical & Instrumentation trades qualification is desirable
  • Accreditation from the Institute of Engineers PNG Inc. will be completed as part of work permit process
  • Australian, New Zealand, or PNG Power Electrical License is essential
  • Certification in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar is desirable
  • PNG National Driver’s License
  • High Voltage Switching accreditation is desirable
  • Solid relevant experience, including leadership roles
  • Experience in mining or heavy industry and remote locations
  • Proficiency in MS Office and project management
  • Strong analytical, planning, and interpersonal skills

Your Work Environment

Based at the Lihir site, you’ll work within the Fixed Plant Maintenance team on a FIFO 21:21 roster, collaborating with a diverse workforce and contractors. The role involves hands-on technical work, leadership responsibilities, and engagement with both internal and external stakeholders.
