About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Your Impact
As Advisor, Maintenance Autoclaves, you’ll coordinate maintenance activities for 4 autoclaves and associated equipment, driving KPI compliance and continuous improvement. Your leadership will help ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations, contributing directly to shutdown readiness, statutory compliance, and process plant improvements.

As Part Of The Team, You Will

  • Administer and optimize maintenance activities and weekly schedules
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety protocols
  • Lead and guide supervisors, trades, and new employees
  • Conduct inspections, safety audits, and troubleshoot issues
  • Compile performance reports and maintain accurate records
  • Assess risks and implement mitigation measures
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external contractors/suppliers

Prerequisites for Your Success in This Role

  • Fitter and turner trade certificate is preferred
  • 5 years experience in maintenance coordination and safety compliance
  • Experience with autoclaves is essential
  • Experience with positive displacement pumps (GEHO’s)
  • Advanced skills in maintenance scheduling, safety audits, and troubleshooting
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance management systems (SAP) and risk management
  • Effective communication, self-awareness, and teamwork abilities
  • Commitment to Newmont’s values and productive work culture

Your Work Environment
You’ll be based at the Lihir site, working within the Autoclave Maintenance department on a 21:21 roster. The role involves collaborating with a diverse team of technicians, engineers, contractors, and suppliers, and being part of a supportive leadership group focused on operational excellence.
