About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose

At Newmont, we’re more than a world-leading gold and metals producer — we’re a team committed to safety, innovation, and operational excellence. We’re looking for a dynamic Advisor – Transport (Land & Sea) to lead our transport operations and ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of land and marine transport services.

As the Advisor – Transport (Land & Sea), you’ll provide hands-on operational leadership and technical guidance across Newmont’s bus, boat, and ferry services. You’ll oversee contractor performance, lead a team of supervisors, officers, and operators, and ensure our people and assets move safely and efficiently — every day.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and monitor daily transport operations (land and marine) to meet safety, schedule, and regulatory standards.
• Provide leadership and coaching to contractor supervisors and operators to strengthen performance and safety culture.
• Oversee compliance with transport contracts, Newmont standards, and operational KPIs (e.g. DIFOT, fleet reliability, fatigue trends).
• Drive efficiency through route and schedule optimisation and proactive issue resolution.
• Partner with internal stakeholders and maintenance providers to deliver reliable and safe transport services.
• Champion Newmont’s “Always Safe” culture through inspections, risk assessments, and journey management planning.

What We’re Looking For

• Diploma or Degree in Transport Management, Logistics, Maritime Operations, or equivalent experience.
• Proven background in land and/or marine transport operations with contractor supervision experience.
• Strong knowledge of safety management systems, risk assessments, and compliance frameworks.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office, GPS tracking, and reporting tools.

Working Conditions

• Must be open to a FIFO role
• Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
• Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months
