About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Your Impact
As an Advisor, Maintenance Dispatch, you'll be at the centre of real‑time maintenance coordination for our heavy mobile fleet. Your decisions will directly influence fleet availability, maintenance efficiency, and safe production outcomes. You'll use live equipment health data and mine dispatch systems to guide operators, prioritise work, minimise downtime, and ensure maintenance events run smoothly and accurately.
As part of our team, you will
- Manage all equipment maintenance down and up events, ensuring safe and timely coordination.
- Collaborate with maintenance supervisor and dispatch heavy mobile equipment in line with the approved maintenance schedule.
- Work closely with Mining and Maintenance Supervisors to action priorities and optimise workflow.
- Monitor real‑time equipment health data (Mine Star, telemetry) to identify issues early and support defect elimination.
- Liaise with fuel bay and maintenance personnel to action corrective tasks at optimal times.
- Ensure high‑quality data capture throughout your shift, including accurate down‑event coding.
- Actively contribute to team discussions, raise issues, seek feedback, and stop unsafe work.
Prerequisites for your success in this role
- Mechanical Trade Qualification or extensive mechanical experience.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues in simple language.
- Confident in machine analytics, problem‑solving, and making fast decisions with limited information.
- Solid understanding of heavy mobile equipment telemetry and sensor data.
- Proficient in SAP and computer‑literate in MS Office.
- Experience with (or willingness to learn): Modular Mining, Cat SIS, Mine Star, Power BI, Cat ET.
- Excellent attention to detail, time‑management, and the ability to work autonomously under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration, feedback, and conflict resolution.
- Familiarity with PNG Mine Safety Act, safety systems, and operational procedures.
- Current PNG Driver’s Licence.
Your work environment
This role is offered on a 28:14 Day / Night Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster to Lihir Island, PNG.
Our FIFO employees stay in a secure and comfortable camp, in an ensuite and airconditioned room equipped with mini fridge, TV and Wi-Fi. A variety of healthy meal options are catered for at our mess; and the wet mess provides a relaxed social setting where employees can unwind with a game of pool or darts.
