About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Your Impact
At Newmont, our people and safe performance are fundamental to our success. As Advisor, Advisor People, Training (Asset Management Fixed), you will be instrumental in building and sustaining workforce capability across Fixed Plant Maintenance, with a strong focus on electrical training and compliance.
Your work will ensure our people are competent, authorised, and trained in line with regulatory requirements and Newmont standards, directly supporting operational safety, reliability, and continuous improvement across site.
As part of our team, you will
In this role, you will:
- Evaluate Fixed Plant training needs, with a strong focus on electrical compliance and competency assurance, and identify skill gaps.
- Design, develop, and coordinate comprehensive training programs aligned to internal, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
- Create engaging training materials and learning modules that support continuous improvement and adult learning principles.
- Deliver and coordinate training sessions across Fixed Plant Maintenance teams.
- Maintain and assure electrical competency frameworks, including authorisation, verification, refresher, and gap‑closure processes.
- Ensure training programs align with site electrical safety rules, statutory obligations, and Newmont standards.
- Partner with Electrical Engineering, HSE, site leadership, and external training providers to ensure training reflects current risk controls and best practice.
- Incorporate learnings from audits, inspections, and incident investigations into training content and on‑the‑job training.
- Maintain and manage electrical competencies, authorisations, and compliance records within the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Develop, review, and continuously improve training materials, facilitator guides, verification of competency processes, On‑the‑Job Training (OJT), and online learning content.
- Conduct field observations and engage with operational leaders to understand workforce capability needs and tailor training solutions.
- Maintain audit‑ready training and competency records demonstrating compliance.
- Support safety leadership by coaching teams, participating in investigations, and reinforcing safe work practices.
- Promote proactive safety behaviours, coach employees, and contribute to incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Prerequisites for your success in this role
You will bring:
- Electrical trade certification (instrumentation desirable).
- Formal qualifications in Training & Assessment, Education, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in technical training, ideally within mining, processing plants, or the resources sector.
- Strong understanding of electrical compliance frameworks, competency assurance, authorisation systems, and refresher training requirements.
- Proven ability to design and deliver training aligned to regulatory and site standards.
- Experience working with compliance, audit, and regulatory environments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently across a diverse workforce.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and training management systems
- Auditor certification and leadership experience (desirable)
- Proven facilitation, coaching, and mentoring capability across diverse operational teams.
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to translate standards into effective training materials.
- Proficiency in adult learning principles and vocational education (VET) frameworks
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- The capability to work with autonomy and minimal supervision, effectively managing priorities when provided with clear direction and resources.

Your work environment
This role is offered on a 21:21 day shift Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster to Lihir Island, Papua New Guinea.
Our FIFO employees stay in a secure and comfortable camp, in an en-suited and airconditioned room equipped with mini fridge, TV and Wi-Fi. A variety of healthy meal options are catered for at our mess; and the wet mess provides a relaxed social setting where employees can unwind with a game of pool or darts.
You will operate in a dynamic operational environment, supporting compliance across Fixed Plant Maintenance without holding operational electrical authority, while providing assurance that all electrical training and competency requirements are met.
