About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. About the Role
Our Human Resources Department at the Lihir operation is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced HR professional for the role of Advisor – People Business Partner.
Reporting to the Lead – People Business Partners, you will support the delivery of day-to-day HR services for Business Unit employees, including the implementation of enterprise programs at the business unit level.
Essential Duties
Your Key responsibilities include and will not be limited to:
- Assist in the delivery and execution of enterprise HR programs at the business unit level.
- Manage employee change requests in HRIS in partnership with the HR Service Center.
- Support change management initiatives and ensure compliance with PNG Employment Act and Labour Laws.
- Serve as a trusted advisor, strategic partner to optimize people processes, strengthen employee relations, and foster staff growth and development.
- Provide support in resolving employee conflicts aligned to the disciplinary process, conduct HR investigations, Performance & Case Management and track to activity to completion.
- Support people leaders on the end to end annual performance management cycle.
- Provide policy advise and guidance to people leaders and employees.
- Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes, including exit data analysis.
Training & Experience
Ideally, our preferred applicant will have;
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, Psychology or other relevant tertiary-level qualification essential.
- 3-5 years of relevant HR work experience, preferably within the large-scale mining industry.
- Experienced in HR program delivery ( Performance & Case Management, Disciplinary esp. investigations, Annual Performance Cycle, Workforce Planning), contractor conversion, and change management.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR systems, and company policies.
- Technical skills in HR reporting, data analysis, and process improvement
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced interpersonal skills, including collaboration, advising, coaching, and active listening.
- Strong problem-solving ability, commercial awareness, and cultural sensitivity.
- High attention to detail with good time management skills.
- Relevant certificate in investigation or report writing desirable.
- Accreditation from the PNG Human Resources Institute desirable.
The Requirements
- Must be available for FIFO to Lihir
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
- Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
