Assistant Mill Manager – Palm Oil Mill

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and capable Assistant Mill Manager to support the Mill Manager in leading day-to-day palm oil mill operations. The position covers the full production process—from receipt of Fresh Fruit Bunches through extraction, storage and dispatch of Crude Palm Oil and Palm Kernel—as well as utilities, maintenance coordination and effluent treatment.

As deputy to the Mill Manager, you will provide hands-on operational leadership, maintain production and quality standards, strengthen safety and environmental performance, and support the development of mill employees.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise daily processing to achieve production, Oil Extraction Rate and Kernel Extraction Rate targets while minimising losses.
• Monitor process parameters and ensure CPO and Palm Kernel meet required specifications.
• Coordinate process, boiler, maintenance, workshop, laboratory, utilities and treatment plant activities.
• Support preventive and corrective maintenance and reduce unplanned downtime.
• Lead, coach and develop section heads, supervisors and operators.
• Promote compliance with safety, environmental, quality and sustainability requirements.
• Monitor operational costs, utilities, consumables and stock balances, and recommend improvements.
• Act on behalf of the Mill Manager when required.

• Strong practical knowledge of palm oil milling, production control and process optimisation.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise multidisciplinary mill operations and coordinate maintenance activities.
• Sound leadership, communication, reporting and problem-solving skills.
• A strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance, quality and continuous improvement.
• Ability to manage priorities, control costs and make sound operational decisions.

Academic Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical/Process or Agricultural Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline.
• A bachelor’s degree and training or certification in palm oil milling, boiler operations, environmental management, ISO, RSPO, ISCC or HACCP will be advantageous.
• A supervisory or management qualification will be highly regarded.

Skills and Experience Requirements

• Five to eight years’ palm oil milling experience, including two to three years in supervision.
• Practical knowledge of production, process optimisation, utilities, maintenance and quality control.
• Proven ability to coordinate mill operations, manage breakdowns and improve equipment reliability.
• Strong leadership, coaching, analytical, reporting and decision-making skills.
• Working knowledge of HSE, environmental and sustainability requirements.
• Ability to deputise for the Mill Manager and use Excel and production reporting systems.
