Associate Church Pastor (Female)
The Organisation:
Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is owned and operated by the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The institution is accredited to the Adventist Accreditation Association, an international denominational authority for all tertiary and graduate educational programs and institutions owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church entities. The main campus is located on the pristine Koiari Park, 14 miles outside Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The institution was established in 1984. Since then, it has grown from a college of 20 students, to a university of over 1000 students from across the Pacific.
The Role:
Assist and support the Senior Church Pastor providing spiritual leadership, nurture and care to the University community.
Core Responsibilities:
- Assist and support the Senior Church Pastor in formulating, implementing and reviewing the University’s Spiritual Master Plan.
- Be a vital and key proponent in fostering a spiritual environment that is conducive to developing a personal relationship with God, for all people who come onto the university campus (students, staff, family members, and visitors).
- Provide spiritual direction, support, nurture and pastoral care to all students, staff and their families, and be actively engaged and concerned with their spiritual welfare.
- Be available to provide spiritual guidance and general counselling to the PAU community at large during times of crisis, such as sickness, death, personal or relationship problems, in liaison with the Senior Church Pastor and Director of Counselling Services.
- Be available to preach as required and assist in the coordination of church programs.
- Work closely with the Senior Church Pastor in caring for the business of the university churches.
- Assist in the coordination of the outreach programs of the university to ensure the university is sharing the Gospel with the community within which it operates, including Branch Sabbath schools, Prison Ministry and other outreach activities.
- Serve on university and church committees as required.
- Other duties as requested by the Senior Church Pastor.
About you:
Qualifications and Skills required:
- Active relationship with Jesus Christ, characterized by a deep desire for worship and service to God.
- Bachelor’s degree in Theology or related area of study.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Pastoral Ministry, with experience in a university environment to be viewed favorably.
- A sound working knowledge of, and proven loyalty to, the church its organization and policies.
- Have an interest in and aptitude for cross-cultural ministry.
- Applied knowledge of church administration, church ministry, discipleship, spiritual welfare and pastoral care.
- Proven ability to work with, serve and minister to an ethnically diverse, multicultural and demographically varied congregation and community at large, including students, staff and their families from the South Pacific Division (SPD) in particular and beyond.
- High level of understanding and sensitivity to the spiritual needs of the university community from a broad range of backgrounds
- Proven ability to contribute to the design, planning and implementation of programs that contribute to the spiritual wellbeing of the university.
- High level interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong ability to work with others as part of a team in achieving collective objectives/goals.
- A strong understanding of the Churches health message and appreciation of the need to incorporate Health & Safety in all the Churches operations and activities.
