As an experienced Auto Electrical Technician supporting the Truckshop team, you will provide technical auto sparkie skills, leadership, and mentoring in the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of electrical and electronic systems across Newmont's mobile fleet, with a primary focus on CAT 785D, 777F, and 773D haul trucks.
Your role is critical in improving equipment reliability, availability, and maintenance quality while developing the capability of your core worker and apprentices. You will act as the technical authority for auto electrical systems, providing hands-on support, coaching, and guidance to ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and to OEM standards.
Working in a demanding mining environment, you will drive continuous improvement initiatives, strengthen workforce capability, and contribute directly to Newmont's operational excellence objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Duties:
-- Provide technical support for auto electrical systems across the mobile fleet.
-- Lead complex fault-finding and diagnostic activities on haul trucks and ancillary equipment.
-- Support troubleshooting and repair of:
o Wiring harnesses
o Electronic Control Modules (ECMs)
o Sensors and switches
o Starting and charging systems
o Lighting systems
o Telematics and fleet management systems
o Product Link Elite (PLE)
o Health Monitoring Systems (HIMS)
o Collision avoidance systems
o Camera systems
o Communication equipment
-- Ensure repairs and maintenance activities are completed to OEM and Newmont standards.
-- Guide and oversee component replacements, planned maintenance, and breakdown repairs.
-- Monitor equipment performance and identify emerging reliability risks.
-- Improve maintenance practices through technical feedback and practical solutions.
-- Coach, mentor, and develop Auto Electricians, Technicians, and Apprentices.
-- Promote knowledge transfer and sustainable workforce development.
-- Champion Newmont's Safety Values and Critical Control Management standards.
-- Ensure compliance with all site safety procedures, isolation processes, and statutory requirements.
-- Lead by example in hazard identification, risk management, and incident prevention.
-- Stop unsafe work and promote a strong safety culture.
-- Ensure work activities comply with environmental and regulatory requirements.
-- Delivering safe and quality auto electrical maintenance outcomes.
-- Reducing repeat electrical failures and downtime.
-- Ensuring compliance with Newmont maintenance and safety standards.
Qualifications
Essential
-- Recognised NATTB Trade Qualification in Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent.
-- Current and valid driver's licence (PNG Class or ability to obtain).
-- Strong understanding of heavy mobile equipment electrical systems.
-- Demonstrated capability in advanced electrical diagnostics and fault-finding.
-- Extensive experience maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing heavy mining equipment electrical systems.
-- Significant experience working on CAT 785D, 777F, and 773D haul trucks or equivalent mining equipment.
-- Strong knowledge of Caterpillar electronic control systems and diagnostics.
-- Experience using Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET), SIS, and other OEM diagnostic software.
-- Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring technicians in a mining environment.
-- Caterpillar ET and SIS utilisation
-- Wiring harness diagnosis and repair
-- Electrical schematic interpretation
-- Contribution to continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.
