Company Overview

Tolu Minerals Limited has successfully completed its exploration phase and is transitioning into underground mining operations in Papua New Guinea, with full-scale production targeted for 2027. This role is part of the build-up of operational capability across the Mobile Maintenance Department as the company moves from development into full operational status.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Superintendent the Auto Electrician is responsible for the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic systems across Tolu Minerals' surface, underground mobile equipment and light vehicle fleet, ensuring electrical systems are safe, compliant, and reliable.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical systems on mobile equipment, including starting/charging systems, lighting, wiring harnesses, sensors, and control systems.
• Carry out installation, fault-finding, and repair of auto-electrical components on light vehicles, surface heavy equipment, and underground mobile equipment.
• Service and maintain batteries, alternators, starter motors, and associated electrical components across the mobile fleet.
• Diagnose and repair fault codes on modern equipment using OEM diagnostic software and tools.
• Carry out programming/calibration of electronic control modules where required and supported by OEM procedures.
• Inspect, test, and certify electrical systems and components to ensure compliance with relevant safety standards, including intrinsically safe/flameproof requirements for underground equipment where applicable.
• Complete accurate job cards, fault reports, and work orders for all electrical maintenance and repair work.
• Liaise with the Mobile Maintenance Planner and Superintendent on parts requirements and scheduling of electrical maintenance and repairs.
• Respond to breakdowns involving electrical faults across surface and underground equipment as required.
• Maintain a safe, organized auto-electrical workshop area, including correct storage and handling of batteries and electrical components.
• Comply with all site HSE procedures, isolation/lock-out tag-out (LOTO) requirements, and electrical safety standards.

Qualifications

• Trade certificate in Auto Electrical or equivalent recognized qualification.
• Current PNG driver's license.
• Relevant electrical safety/LOTO training; underground mining induction/ticket required for underground work or willingness to obtain.

Experience

• Minimum 3 years' post-trade experience as an auto electrician, preferably within a mining or heavy industrial setting.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing electrical systems on heavy mobile equipment and light vehicles.
• Familiarity with OEM diagnostic tools and electronic control systems on modern mobile equipment preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across 12V/24V automotive and heavy equipment electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical/wiring schematics and OEM diagnostic outputs.
• Sound understanding of electrical safety practices, isolation procedures, and relevant PNG electrical standards.
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail in record-keeping and fault reporting.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a broader maintenance team, including occasional underground work.

Working Conditions

• Underground and surface mining environment with exposure to heat, humidity, noise, dust, and confined spaces.
• Operates on a fixed roster of 19 days on / 9 days off.
• Required to work shift patterns including day and night shift as rostered.
• Must comply with all Tolu Minerals HSE policies, PNG Mining Safety regulations, and site-specific permit-to-work systems.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory at all times in designated areas.
