About the role
Reporting to the Biodiversity Manager, the Biodiversity Coordinator will play a key role in supporting the development, implementation, and ongoing management of biodiversity and ecosystem programs. Based in Port Moresby, this role will initially focus on finalising critical biodiversity documentation and will progressively support monitoring, reporting, and field implementation activities in line with IFC Performance Standard 6 (PS6) and Biodiversity Net Gain objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the finalisation and implementation of key biodiversity frameworks including BESS, BESAP, BMEP, BOS, and BOMP
- Assist in the development and implementation of biodiversity management plans and procedures under the Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS)
- Support biodiversity monitoring programs, ecological surveys, and field data collection activities
- Prepare scopes of work for biodiversity-related studies and coordinate with consultants and technical specialists
- Support biodiversity stakeholder engagement activities, including community consultations and ecosystem services mapping
- Assist in preparation and implementation of biodiversity communication materials and awareness programs
- Coordinate lender and Independent Environmental and Social Consultant (IESC) monitoring visits and related activities
- Ensure biodiversity programs comply with IFC PS6, lender requirements, and internal corporate standards
- Manage biodiversity data collection, QA/QC, reporting, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders
- Provide technical input into Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and associated management plans
- Support biodiversity training needs assessments and deliver capacity-building programs for staff and contractors
- Assist in review of ecological studies, monitoring reports, and consultant deliverables
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support ecological planning, mitigation measures, and compliance requirements
- Identify seasonal ecological constraints and support planning of fieldwork activities
- Bachelor degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation Science, Biology, Forestry, Marine or related discipline
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in biodiversity, ecology, or environmental management roles
- Strong understanding of IFC Performance Standard 6 (PS6) or equivalent international biodiversity frameworks
- Experience in developing biodiversity strategies, monitoring plans, or environmental documentation
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and coordination skills in complex project environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
