Bookshop and Café Manager

The Organisation:

Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is owned and operated by the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The institution is accredited to the Adventist Accreditation Association, an international denominational authority for all tertiary and graduate educational programs and institutions owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church entities. The main campus is located on the pristine Koiari Park, 14 miles outside Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The institution was established in 1984. Since then, it has grown from a college of 20 students, to a university of over 1000 students from across the Pacific.

The Role:

This position is responsible to the Bursar and will provide oversight to the selection and purchase of books, stationery, gifts, and university merchandise; managing inventory and sales; supervising staff and work-line students; and ensuring that the bookstore and the management of the café to provide a welcoming and efficient environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Core Responsibilities:

Bookstore Management:

  • Select and purchase books, stationery, gifts and university merchandise that meets the needs of the students, faculty, staff and visitors.
  • Manage inventory levels and ensure that products are always in stock.
  • Develop and implement pricing strategies.
  • Supervise bookstore staff, including hiring, training and scheduling.
  • Monitor bookstore operations and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.

Cafe Management:

  • Develop and implement a cafe menu that meets the needs of the students, faculty, staff and visitors.
  • Ensure the quality and consistency of food and beverages served.
  • Manage cafe staff, including hiring, training and scheduling.
  • Monitor cafe operations and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies with PAU communications to promote the cafe and increase sales.

Customer Service:

  • Provide excellent customer service to all customers, including students, faculty, staff and visitors.
  • Resolve customer complaints and enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Create a welcoming and inviting atmosphere in the bookstore and cafe

About you:

Qualifications and Skills required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field from a recognized tertiary institution
  • Minimum of 5 years’ Experience in retail management, preferably in a university setting
  • Experience in food management is preferred
  • Proficiency in Attache’ Accounting Software
