Overview
The Branch Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall operations, commercial performance, and administrative functions of the branch office. This includes managing vessel operations, customer service, sales, documentation, and ensuring compliance with company policies and international shipping regulations. The role demands strong leadership, strategic thinking, and in-depth knowledge of the shipping and logistics industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the branch, including vessel handling, documentation, equipment control, and customer service.
- Manage Operational Performance & Quality, set up SOP's and KPI's to ensure conformity across all offices.
- Lead, train, and motivate a team to ensure high performance and operational efficiency.
- Maintain strong relationships with key clients, port authorities, shipping agents, and other stakeholders.
- Responsible for the relationship with principals & global agency partners of the principal.
- Monitor and improve the branch’s profitability, cost control, and revenue growth.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of shipping documentation (BLs, manifests, etc.).
- Coordinate with head office and other branches for smooth execution of company policies and procedures.
- Analyze market trends and competitor activities to identify new business opportunities.
- Oversee the performance of subcontractors and service providers (e.g., trucking, terminal, depot).
- Prepare regular reports on branch performance and suggest improvements to senior management.
Qualifications & Skills
- University Degree plus 3 years related experience in Shipping Agency environment, Freight Forwarding or Port Operations.
- Proactive with a commercial view and able to maintain good customer’s relationship through visitation and follow up on potential business.
- Experienced in process management, management capability, involving negotiating skills and the responsibility of the agency
- Able to manage change and continuous improvement
- A team player with good leadership skills showing with the desire to develop and train other colleagues in all aspects of shipping agency
- Oversea experience is added advantage
- Excellent command of written & spoken English is essential
- Excellent operational, management, and knowledge in all matters relating to vessel operation, customer service, documentation & office administration in shipping with an in-depth knowledge of shipping agency.
- Familiarity with regional trade routes and cargo flows.
- Experience working in a multi-cultural, cross-functional environment.
- Knowledge of container tracking, equipment control, and freight systems.
