We are seeking to recruit for the position of Roads Project Supervisor for our Mine Technical Services - Projects Department. Reporting to the Civil Works and Projects Superintendent, the objective of this role is to provide assistance to the Civil Works and Projects Superintendent in implementing the civil works and projects Harmony delivers to the communities in the district. The applicant must have a comprehensive understanding of road, bridge and general civil construction supervision, engineering designs, project management and delivery.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Day to day supervision of civil projects and contractors executing projects.
  • Assist in project reporting, inspection scoping, design, planning and scheduling.
  • Ensure the continuous implementation of safety best practice at execution in line with Harmony Safety Policy and Systems.
  • Ensure all activities are executed in compliance with Harmony’s Environmental, Social and Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Clearly identify risks and put forward mitigation action plans to minimise impacts of these to contractors, co-workers and the community.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • A minimum Certificate or Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised institution in PNG.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a supervisor of civil construction projects. This needs to be practical, field-based experience with a clear emphasis on rural road and bridge construction.
  • Experience in road, bridge, housing, water supply, general construction and other infrastructure projects would be an advantage and should be highlighted on the application.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental management in civil construction tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with rural communities.
  • Demonstrated project management experience including cost and budget control, invoicing, scheduling, supervision of contracts, etc.
  • Be a self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision, and an excellent time manager.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent report writing skills, such as construction inspection and closure out reports meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Experience with software such as MS Word, MS Project, MS Excel, and AutoCAD.
  • Must have Class 3 or 6 PNG Driving License.

The above role is based at Bulolo

The roster is 5 days on and 2 days off. The successful candidate will be based in Bulolo and working in the Wau and Bulolo local government districts. This role is not eligible for Housing Assistance.

Company Description: The Hidden Valley mine is an open pit gold and silver mine, situated in the Morobe province in Papua New Guinea, some 210km northwest of Port Moresby and approximately 90km south-southwest from Lae, the capital of the province. The mine is located at elevations between 2 800m and 1 700m above sea level within steep mountainous and forested terrain that experiences approximately 3m of rainfall per year. The major gold and silver deposits of Hidden Valley are located in the Morobe Granodiorite of the Wau Graben. Crushed ore is conveyed from the Hidden Valley pit via a 3.8km long overland pipe conveyor and is treated at the Hidden Valley processing plant, which uses a two stage crushing circuit followed by a SAG mill, gravity, CCD/Merril Crowe circuit for silver and carbon-in-leach circuit for the gold.
