POSITION TITLE: CASUAL WORKER SKILLED LABOURER - (Lae Based Only)

CONTEXT

Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization, founded in 1971 and working in 70 countries around the world. MSF provides medical assistance to populations in crisis, regardless of race, religion, belief or political affiliation. In PNG, MSF has been working since 2007 in Lae, Taric, Bougainville, Gulf Province and NCD Province. MSF is now working to support the Department of Health to improve access to care for patients in Lae, Jiwaka and Highlands.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Carrying out specific technical and logistics works regarding his/her qualifications, according to MSF procedures and his/her superior's instructions, in order to contribute to the construction, smooth functioning, cleanliness and repairs within MSF premises

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performing work in the areas of his/her qualifications according to his/her line manager's instructions. This can include the following jobs and functions:
  • Carpentry: skilled in woodworks and able to build and repair simple structures using wood.
  • Plumbing: skilled in pipping systems, drainage and sewage. Able to fix toilets, sinks etc.
  • Masonry : skilled in cutting, dressing, and laying stone
  • Gardening: ability to cultivate, tend, and manage plants, flowers
  • Welding : skilled in metalworks (aluminum, steel etc.)
  • Performing repairs, maintenance and construction work, according to the supervisor's instructions
• Taking all necessary safety measures for each work done and ensuring the same for all his/her assistants.
• Ensuring cleanliness of common working areas.
• Ensuring proper use, storage and maintenance of the equipment and tools provided.
• Informing superiors of any incident that may occur in the course of his/her work
• Performing tasks delegated to him/her as specified below
