How You’ll Make a Difference
As a Chief Engineer, you’ll contribute to vessel performance, safety outcomes, and maintenance standards, while supporting continuous improvement and compliance with regulatory, company, and port-specific requirements. Reporting to the Master onboard, your responsibilities will include:
- Operate and monitor vessel engines, generators, and associated systems during towage operations
- Perform planned and corrective maintenance on engines, deck machinery, and associated equipment
- Execute maintenance in accordance with the Planned Maintenance System and budget requirements
- Diagnose faults and carry out repairs, including emergency maintenance
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, ISM requirements, and port operating procedures
- Participate in and support safety training, drills, and competency development
- Monitor and report on safety performance, hazards, and incidents
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safe work practices
What You’ll Bring
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:
- Valid Engineer Class 2 Certificate of Competency from an approved regional maritime training institution (such as the PNG Maritime College)
- SOLAS Certification: Up-to-date Safety of Life at Sea training certificates certified by the NMSA
- A current NMSA Medical Fitness Certificate applicable to the Certificate of Competency
- Relevant experience in the maritime industry (harbour towage experience would be an advantage)
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding capability
- PNG Passport with validity of more than six months
