Summary

The Civil Works/Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for overseeing both the design and implementation of civil infrastructure projects, as well as managing surveying activities in the field. This role requires extensive fieldwork and collaboration with project teams to ensure projects are delivered with precision, quality, and integrity. The role involves the use of advanced surveying tools and technology, as well as ensuring adherence to engineering standards and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Project Planning and Design
  • Develop detailed project plans, including scope, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to design civil works (roads, bridges, drainage systems, utilities).
  • Conduct feasibility studies and site assessments to determine project viability.
  • Prepare accurate engineering drawings and specifications in accordance with regulatory standards.
2. Surveying and Fieldwork
  • Conduct site surveys and inspections using equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and 3D laser scanners.
  • Analyze and interpret survey data to generate contour plans using Civil CAD software.
  • Incorporate survey data into civil infrastructure designs.
  • Ensure the accuracy of topography, boundaries, and measurements on-site.
3. Site Management
  • Oversee construction activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to facilitate smooth execution of project phases.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, address issues, and ensure project integrity.
  • Ensure proper implementation of survey data during construction phases.
4. Quality Assurance and Control
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and quality control procedures.
  • Conduct material testing and maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Prepare progress reports and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
  • Document changes in project scope and manage approvals.
5. Team Collaboration and Leadership
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication among all team members and stakeholders.
  • Review and approve construction methods and materials for compliance.
6. Budgeting and Resource Management
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
  • Monitor expenditures and implement cost control measures where appropriate.
  • Oversee procurement processes and ensure ethical purchasing practices.
  • Recommend cost-saving measures while maintaining quality standards.
7. Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Obtain required permits and approvals from authorities.
  • Conduct environmental assessments as needed.
8. Problem-Solving and Decision-Making
  • Identify and resolve project challenges while maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Make informed decisions regarding project modifications or design changes.
  • Implement risk management strategies and address safety concerns on-site.
9. Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and reports.
  • Prepare and present progress reports to stakeholders.
  • Document best practices and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
10. Equipment Maintenance and Calibration
  • Ensure surveying equipment is maintained and calibrated for accurate data collection.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs and replacements as necessary.
  • Stay informed of technological advancements to enhance equipment performance.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering and/or surveying.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Civil CAD, and other engineering software.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with construction materials, methods, and surveying equipment.

Working Conditions
  • This position involves extensive fieldwork and site visits, including travel to various project locations.
  • Some physical activities, such as walking long distances, climbing, or carrying equipment, may be required.
  • Split between office and fieldwork. Fieldwork involves outdoor site visits with varying weather and terrain.
  • Frequent travel to project sites, sometimes requiring overnight stays. Flexibility in travel is expected.
  • The role is physically demanding, requiring good fitness for site work. Strong problem-solving skills and clear communication are essential.
