Islands Petroleum (IP) is an independently owned fuel and lubes distributor, and the exclusive distributor for Mobil lubricants in Papua New Guinea. With the head office based in Kokopo, Islands Petroleum also operates bulk fuel depots in Rabaul, Kimbe, Konebada, Kavieng, Alotau, Popondetta/Oro Bay and Mt. Hagen as well as lubes and fuel distribution warehouses in Lae, Port Moresby, and Madang.

We are currently seeking to hire an experienced Commercial Analyst to join our growing team, the successful candidate will be based at our Head office in Port Moresby, NCD.

The Role & Responsibilities

A Commercial Analyst evaluates business operations, sales performance, and market trends to provide actionable insights that drive profitability and inform decision-making. They analyze data, develop financial models, and create reports on sales, margins, and trends to guide company strategy and support stakeholder decision-making.

• Provide commercial and analytical support across Islands Petroleum assets.
• Conduct market research and pricing, and performance analysis.
• Support new business opportunities and business development initiatives.
• Collaborate with project teams and key stakeholders on commercial matters.
• Prepare reports, reporting dashboards, presentations, and commercial documentation.
• Customer pricing, tender pricing and ICCC monthly system price change.
• Develop and execute retail fuel pricing strategies to maximize profitability, often setting prices across multiple locations.
• Market monitoring - Track product costs, competitor pricing, and economic indicators to stay ahead of market volatility.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on product margin and volume performance for management and sales teams.
• Work with sales and operations teams to coordinate pricing, ensure system compliance, and implement best practices.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, Finance, Commerce, Business, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, resource sector or related field.
• Experience in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and financial analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Professional, accountable, and results driven.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• High level of confidentiality and ethical conduct.
