Position: Communications / Electrical Technician

Location: Port Moresby

Employment Type: Full-time

Overview: This role supports TE PNG’s workshop and field installation activities across communications, vehicle and marine electronics, electrical hardware, and power systems. The technician will assist with installation, configuration, testing and maintenance of communications and navigation equipment including radios, tracking devices, GPS, radar, echo sounders and related electrical systems for vehicles and vessels.

The position focuses on hands‑on technical work. It is not a supervisory role. The technician works closely with senior technicians, coordinators and the Technical Services Manager to ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to TE PNG’s standards of quality and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation and wiring of communications and navigation equipment including radios, GPS, tracking devices, radar and sounders in vehicles and marine vessels.
  • Support installation of NMEA networks, power distribution systems and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Conduct workshop repairs, diagnostics and testing of auto and marine equipment.
  • Assist with field installations, integration and commissioning of systems supplied by TE PNG.
  • Ensure all wiring, cable routing and equipment mounting is completed to high professional standards.
  • Support senior technicians and project teams during commissioning and testing of installed systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed, test results and installation details.
  • Assist with site surveys and technical inspections when required.
  • Ensure tools, materials and equipment are maintained in good working conditions.
  • Follow company procedures, electrical safety standards and workplace safety requirements.
  • Provide professional customer service when working on client sites.
  • Assist with preparation of equipment, parts and materials for upcoming installations.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience with auto electrical or marine electrical installations is preferred.
  • Familiarity with communications equipment, vehicle electronics, or marine electronics.
  • Understanding of NMEA networks, power distribution or marine navigation systems is desirable.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and install documentation.
  • Practical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a technical team.

Reporting

The Communications / Electrical Technician reports to the Technical Services Manager and works closely with workshop coordinators and senior technicians.

Work Environment

The role involves work both in the TE PNG workshop and on client sites. Field work may include installations on vehicles, marine vessels and remote project locations.
