WaterAid has been operating in Papua New Guinea (PNG) since 2004, working with local partners and the government to increase access to gender sensitive, socially inclusive and climate resilient water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services. WaterAid PNG’s geographic focus is in the National Capital District, and Central Province in the Southern Region and East Sepik Province.

Position Summary

WaterAid is committed to supporting the Government of PNG to reach universal access to sanitation, hygiene and water. WaterAid is seeking to recruit a highly capable individual with a sound communication and advocacy knowledge, skills and experience. The Communications Coordinator will support in publications, media, marketing and advocacy campaigns of WaterAid Papua New Guinea.

Key Performance Areas/Accountabilities

  • Support grant projects and the country office to develop and disseminate advocacy and communications materials, including press releases, blog posts and social media content.
  • Management of WaterAid PNG Facebook page, development and management of other social media channels as needed, as sharing and/or co-developing relevant and related content for partner/stakeholder social media channels.
  • Develop and promote communications and advocacy materials through appropriate social channels.
  • Track analysis and create reports detailing success, learnings and areas for improvement for communications and advocacy campaigns.
  • Ensure that all communications and advocacy aligns with and adequately captures our organization brand standards.
  • Maintain digital media archives including photos and videos.
  • Management of engagement and stakeholder’s relationship with mainstream media partners including television, newspaper and radio.
  • Coordinate and manage mainstream media coverage of WaterAid PNG events, celebrations, promotional and new stories including media releases/briefs and capture of quality photos, videos and audio recordings.
  • Respond to media inquiries and media outreach to achieve brand placement in publications.
  • Liaising with media organisations/companies for publications (event’s calendar).
  • Liaising, engaging and maintaining relationship with respective media units/leads for program partners and stakeholders including government, donors and political leads.
  • Good knowledge, experience and skills in IT, graphics and Photography.
  • Assist WaterAid PNG programs team to capture appropriate case studies and stories of change to complement quantitative program data for M&E, reporting, learning, research, knowledge and communications production, highlighting WaterAid PNG’s work.
  • Development and dissemination of organizational media & advocacy strategy, profile, pamphlets and other material promoting the country office work as well as strategy and values.

Qualification, Skills & Attributes

  • Bachelor Degree in Journalism
  • 3+ years prior experience in communication
  • Understand the best practises of main social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, etc.
  • Must possess exceptional writing skills and be able to compose engaging and accurate content.
  • Strong communicator who works well independently and with a team and engaging with partners and stakeholders
  • Superior time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Understanding of communications, advocacy, public relations and marketing best practices
  • Must be resourceful and take initiative with minimal direction
  • A demonstrated professional approach in communication, promotion, media liaison and information provision with mainstream media platforms etc….
