CONTAINER YARD SUPERVISOR

Location: Lae

Position Purpose:

The Container Yard Supervisor will be responsible for the safe, efficient and effective operation of the container yard, ensuring accountability of all yard personnel, equipment, containers and cargo movements.

The role plays an integral part in the success of EFM's operations and requires strong leadership, attention to detail, operational planning and the ability to foster teamwork while delivering exceptional customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensure all team members comply with Workplace Health & Safety requirements, Codes of Practice, EFM policies and procedures.
• Supervise the day-to-day operations of the container yard and warehouse.
• Coordinate the safe receipt, storage, handling and dispatch of containers and cargo.
• Ensure accurate inventory control and accountability of all container and cargo movements.
• Lead and supervise reach stacker operators, forklift operators, yard clerks, checkers and operational staff.
• Conduct daily pre-start and toolbox meetings.
• Allocate daily workloads and resources to maximize operational efficiency.
• Ensure the effective utilization of equipment and operational resources.
• Coordinate operational activities with customers, transport providers, shipping lines and relevant authorities where required.
• Monitor productivity and ensure service delivery targets are achieved.
• Maintain accurate operational records and prepare reports as required.
• Investigate operational incidents and implement corrective actions where necessary.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the facility.
• Promote continuous improvement initiatives across the operation.
• Communicate effectively with management, supervisors, customers and internal departments.
• Perform general administrative duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
• Previous supervisory experience within a container yard, warehouse, logistics or transport environment.
• Sound knowledge of container handling operations and inventory control.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to understand internal operating systems.
• High degree of literacy and numeracy.
• Excellent organizational, planning and problem-solving skills.
• Strong leadership and people management abilities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Customer service focused with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high operational and safety standards.
• Forklift or Reach Stacker operational experience will be an advantage.
