About Sarens
Sarens is a global leader in crane rental, heavy lifting, and engineered transport. For over a century, we have built a reputation for solving the lifting and transport challenges others walk away from, and our philosophy is simple: nothing too heavy, nothing too high.

Our people work on some of the world's most demanding projects in mining, oil and gas, energy, infrastructure, and construction. In Oceania, we operate across Australia, Papua New Guinea, and New Caledonia, with the backing of a global organisation that shares engineering expertise, equipment, and knowledge across borders.

We are guided by five values: Brilliant Solutions, Love for Tradition, Dedication to Safety, Global Spirit, and Zeal for Excellence.

About the role
Based in Port Moresby and reporting to the Regional Director, Oceania, you'll lead Sarens in Papua New Guinea. You'll be the senior Sarens representative in the country, responsible for the safety, commercial, and operational performance of the business.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll spend time with clients, on project sites, and with your team, not just behind a desk. You'll set the direction for the business in Papua New Guinea, build long-term client relationships, and grow a capable local team that can deliver complex heavy lift and transport work safely. Regular travel to project sites across the country is part of the role.

What you'll do

Safety and compliance

  • Lead a strong safety culture where every person goes home safe, every day
  • Ensure all work meets Sarens SHEQ standards, client requirements, and Papua New Guinea legislation
  • Ensure compliance with Papua New Guinea employment, tax, customs, and regulatory requirements, including work permits and visas
  • Manage security, logistics, and risk in remote and challenging locations

Commercial and growth

  • Own the country P&L, including budgeting, forecasting, pricing, and cost control
  • Identify and win new work, leading tenders and commercial negotiations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, government bodies, and landowner and community stakeholders
  • Manage contracts, variations, and credit to protect margin and cash flow

Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to budget
  • Manage fleet deployment, maintenance, and utilisation, working with the Fleet and Technical Solutions teams
  • Work with our engineers to plan complex lifts and moves
  • Drive continuous improvement in efficiency, quality, and client service

People and leadership

  • Recruit, develop, and retain a capable team, with a strong focus on building Papua New Guinea national talent
  • Lead training and career development so local employees can grow into senior roles
  • Maintain positive employee and industrial relations
  • Work closely with regional HR, Finance, SHEQ, and Fleet functions

Reporting

  • Report regularly on safety, financial, and operational performance to regional leadership
  • Contribute to Oceania strategy and annual business planning

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years' senior leadership experience in cranage, heavy lift, transport, mining services, or a related industry
  • Proven experience running a business unit or operation with P&L responsibility
  • Strong experience working in Papua New Guinea, with a sound understanding of its business, regulatory, and community environment
  • A strong track record in safety leadership
  • Commercial acumen, with experience in tendering, contracts, and client management
  • The ability to lead and develop culturally diverse teams
  • Resilience, sound judgement, and a practical approach to problem solving
  • Clear, confident communication with clients, crews, and senior leaders alike

What success looks like in your first year

  • A safe year, with a visible and trusted safety culture across all sites
  • Strong relationships with key clients and a growing pipeline of work
  • A stable, capable team, with clear development plans for national employees
  • A business delivering to budget, with sound financial controls in place

What we offer

  • Competitive Salary package
  • The backing of a global organisation with deep heavy lift expertise
  • Real autonomy and the chance to shape the future of the business in Papua New Guinea
  • Career opportunities across Oceania and the wider Sarens network
