Customs Broker

Position Responsibilities

The Customs Broker is responsible and accountable for (but not limited to) the following:

• Lodging documents and communicating with PNG Customs as required
• Compiling and lodging necessary import documentation such as customs declarations
• Advising customers on import restrictions, tariff systems, quotas, other customs related matters and general consultancy/customer service.
• Calculating duty and tariff payments owed on shipments
• Classifying goods according to tariff coding system
• Liaising with officials in various agencies to facilitate clearance of goods through customs and quarantine
• Providing AHECC codes to exports departments as requested
• Applying for customs and import permits as required
• Applying to customs for duty refunds and draw backs
• Attending and participating in department meetings and other activities as required
• Mentor junior brokers and compilers

• Extensive knowledge of tariff classifications and customs / legislation
• Advanced negotiation and relationship skills
• Positive and professional attitude
• High attention to detail and strong planning and organising skills
• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
• Ability to work autonomously and harmoniously within a team environment

Qualifications / Licences - Essentials

• Current unrestricted drivers licence
• Current Customs Brokers licence
