Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following position within the University.
Customs Officer - (TS0-205)
Responsible for import/export Administration, Customs & Quarantine, Management of
the movement of products/equipment/materials in/out of the country in accordance
with organizational policy and procedure, and in compliance with relevant local,
country and international law and processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare and manage all documentation and online forms for efficient and lawful import/export processes.
- Ensure compliance with import/export laws, tariffs, duties, licenses, and restrictions.
- Maintain accurate and timely submissions of shipping schedules, letters of credit, customs declarations, and other necessary documents.
- Handle financial and currency processes related to import/export activities.
- Optimize cost-effectiveness while adhering to organizational policies and legal requirements.
- Liaise with customs, quarantine authorities, suppliers, customers, and transport companies in relevant territories to ensure smooth operations.
- Collaborate with internal departments to align import/export activities with organizational needs.
- Develop and implement import/export strategies that align with organizational goals.
- Plan and execute transport methods to meet the needs of the organization and stakeholders.
- Monitor, record, analyze, and report on import/export trends, activities, and results.
- Ensure the accurate classification of goods and use correct customs tariffs.
- Oversee stock control, warehousing, and distribution activities tied to import/export processes.
- Arrange the fumigation of containers and compliance inspections as needed.
- Plan and manage overseas sales via distributors and other outlets.
- Maintain expertise in ASYCUDA and other relevant import/export systems.
- Negotiate and manage contracts for sales and purchases, ensuring renewals and reviews as necessary.
- Arrange delivery and movement of containers and coordinate inspections.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification & Experience
The successful candidate should have the following attributes:
- Must possess a degree in Business Management, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Customs or related field.
- 3 or more years’ of experience in import/export operations, logistics, or a similar field
- Strong knowledge of import/export laws and processes.
- Proficiency in customs systems like ASYCUDA.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Analytical skills for cost optimization and process improvement.
- Must have knowledge on PNG Shipping and CUSTOMS Clearances Act including certification in NAQIA – Quarantine and or Fogging Management;
SALARY:
Administrative Officer I/II K31,288 – K43,695 per annum
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
