Dangerous Goods Specialist

The Role

  • This role is responsible for ensuring the safe handling, storage and transportation of hazardous materials by air transport and other aviation related activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting dangerous goods training using prevailing training materials and presentations
  • Create and update accurate information, documenting the process
  • Conduct assessment on occurrence concerning dangerous goods incidents and suggest for improvements
  • Develop course packages and are within the current IATA Dangerous Goods Manual edition.
  • Annual update of Dangerous goods manual and are in line with the current changes to the IATA Dangerous Goods Manual.
  • Ensure that Instrument of Approval for Dangerous Goods Instructor is validated according to CASA PNG requirements.
  • Ensure that Instrument of Approval for training syllabus is validated according to CASA PNG requirements.
  • Participate in the safety meeting and address issues concerning dangerous goods.
  • Assist in the setup of the dangerous goods storage areas and ensure that segregation of dangerous
  • Conduct course assessment and evaluation
  • Coordinate and ensure CBT dangerous goods trainings are coordinated and marked and assessed.
  • Ensure that training records are updated regularly.
  • Plan training at port site based on demand and requirements
  • Dangerous Goods Manual is revised according to the Document Control revision cycle.

Requirements for the position:

  • Must hold a valid Dangerous Goods Regulation (DGR) and IATA certification.
  • Have experience working in Aviation Ground Operations, particularly in areas related to Dangerous Goods handling.
  • Have a strong understanding of National and International regulations governing the transportation of Dangerous Goods by air is essential.
  • Have the understanding and knowledge of Emergency protocols involving hazardous materials
  • Familiar with National and International regulations such as IATA and ICAO Technical Instructions.
  • Strong Problem solving and communication skills.
