About the Role

The Dean will enhance the quality of postgraduate education, research and innovation at PNGUoT to drive growth, diversity, and excellence in research and education by providing strong leadership and vision. The Dean will manage the postgraduate School’s resources sustainably, aligning with the University’s strategic goals, and will contribute to resource expansion through advancement efforts and externally supported research as appropriate. Reporting to the Pro Vice Chancellor Academic, Dean will lead efforts to align programs with international standards and strengthen research collaborations with industry and government.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of postgraduate studies, research, and innovation policies to support the university’s strategic plan.
• Formulate and oversee implementation of the research policy and guidelines to facilitate a vibrant research culture and capacity building, to foster research outcomes that would benefit the nation of Papua New Guinea and the humanity as a whole
• Publicize and market the PG programs and the research strength of PNGUoT to the broader community, including the South Pacific and South Asian countries, to attract overseas students.
• Establish linkages and develop partnership programs within and outside of PNG.
• Drive accreditation processes to ensure all programs meet international academic standards.
• Strategize and oversee research initiatives relevant to industry and community needs.
• Foster partnerships with industrial and public sector stakeholders to enhance research funding and postgraduate training.
• Ensure postgraduate supervisors receive professional training in collaboration with overseas partner universities.
• Apply innovative and creative approaches to problem solving.
• Develop an institutional register for patents, copyrights, and intellectual property from research and innovation.

What We Are Looking For

• Qualifications: A Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline within the school from a recognized university.
• Experience: Minimum 15 years in a similar academic leadership role with a track record of research excellence.
• Skills & Attributes:
  • Demonstrated leadership in postgraduate policy formulation, implementation and academic program administration.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership in research program development and implementation.
  • Experienced in office administration and management.
  • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility and ability to manage budgets.
  • Experience in postgraduate student supervision.
  • Strong ethical foundation with transparency and accountability.
  • Commitment to fostering an innovative academic environment.

Conditions of Service

Base Salary Range: Professor PGK95,366 - PGK116,558 per annum

Base DMA Range: PGK43,069 - PGK74,653 per annum

DMA = Domestic Market Allowance

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
