ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to: Director for Library Services
Supervises: Senior Librarians, Library Officers, Support Staff
Coordinates with: Vice Presidents (Academic, Research, Administration & Finance), Faculties, ICT Services, and External Stakeholders
JOB PURPOSE
The Deputy Director - Library Services supports the Director in providing strategic and operational leadership for the Western Pacific University Library. The role contributes to advancing the Western Pacific Digital Library to ensure excellence in supporting student learning, teaching, and research.
The Deputy Director plays a key role in implementing innovative library services, leveraging emerging technologies, and ensuring efficient delivery of resources and services to staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and the wider community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Director in the overall management and strategic direction of library services.
- Oversee day-to-day library operations, ensuring effective and efficient service delivery.
- Support the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards for library services.
- Lead and supervise library staff, including performance management and professional development.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of digital library services and resources.
- Promote information literacy and support teaching, learning, and research activities.
- Assist in planning and managing library budgets and resources.
- Collaborate with academic departments and stakeholders to align library services with institutional needs.
- Monitor emerging trends and technologies in library and information services and recommend innovations.
- Ensure quality assurance and continuous improvement of library programs and services.
- Act on behalf of the Director when required.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Library and Information Science or a related field.
- At least five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in a university or academic library, including supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated experience in library management, academic support services, and program development.
- Strong knowledge of current and emerging technologies in library and information services.
- Experience in digital libraries, information literacy, and research support services.
- Proven leadership, organizational, and human resource management skills.
- Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Understanding of higher education systems, quality assurance, and academic processes.
