Steamships Trading Company is actively seeking a highly skilled, results-driven, and experienced professional to join our team as a Diesel Mechanic. This position will be responsible for overseeing the planned and breakdown maintenance of diesel generators within the Consort Express Lines and Pacific Towing fleets. The successful candidate will also be accountable for managing the inventory of spare parts for Cummins equipment, while performing additional engineering maintenance tasks as directed by the Ships Superintendent or the Technical Services Manager.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role based in Lae, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. As a Diesel Mechanic, your responsibilities are:

1. Prepare work plans after fully scoping out the issue.
2. Accurately troubleshoot and diagnose standard problems with equipment.
3. Conducting field visits in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdown.
4. Identify and order parts necessary to complete repairs and routine maintenance.
5. Perform repairs and maintenance on equipment as necessary.
6. Assist Technical Managers where need be.
7. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
8. Complete work orders accurately and in a timely manner.

Required Experience

• Proven experience (3-5 years) in the maintenance and repair of diesel generators, specifically Cummins engines, Marine Engines and machines.
• Frequently engaged in complex diagnosis and repair.
• Work with minimal to no supervision.

Qualifications and Key Competencies

• Minimum Technical Trade Certificate in Diesel Mechanics
• Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred)
• Ability to learn to troubleshoot engine and support Systems.
• Ability to handle materials needed for repairs.
• Ability to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
• Ability to communicate in writing clearly and concisely.
• Ability to comply with company safety policies and procedures when on duty.
