Director – Properties, Facilities & Transport
The Organisation:
Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is owned and operated by the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The institution is accredited to the Adventist Accreditation Association, an international denominational authority for all tertiary and graduate educational programs and institutions owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church entities. The main campus is located on the pristine Koiari Park, 14 miles outside Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The institution was established in 1984. Since then, it has grown from a college of 20 students, to a university of over 1000 students from across the Pacific.
The Role:
Reporting to the Bursar/ Chief Financial Officer, the Director – Properties, Facilities & Transport is responsible for leading the strategic and operational management of all University properties, facilities, and transport services. This includes the maintenance of staff housing, married student housing, student dormitories, academic and administrative buildings, utilities, campus projects, and specialised facilities such as the engineering workshop.
The role requires a balance of strategic planning and hands-on leadership, working closely with academic leaders, students, staff, and external service providers. This role is critical to ensuring PAU’s campus, residential accommodation, and specialist facilities provide a safe, functional, and high-quality environment that supports teaching, learning, research, and community life.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction for property, facilities, housing, and transport operations
- Oversee maintenance and asset management of staff housing, married student housing, and student dormitories
- Manage all University facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, offices, utilities, grounds, and the engineering workshop
- Ensure facilities and transport services are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose
- Lead capital works, infrastructure upgrades, and refurbishment projects
- Manage budgets, contracts, and service providers
- Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams
- Promote a culture of safety, service excellence, and continuous improvement
About you:
Qualifications and Skills required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Building, Construction, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in senior-level managing operations in Properties, Facilities, Transport and Maintenance, with experience in a university environment to be viewed favourably.
- Senior-level experience managing facilities, infrastructure, or residential accommodation
- Knowledge of maintenance systems, capital works, and compliance requirements
- Strong financial, contract, and people management skills
- Strong organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesise complex information for decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capability
