Islands Petroleum (IP) is an independently owned fuel and lubes distributor, and the exclusive distributor for Mobil lubricants in Papua New Guinea. With the head office based in Kokopo, Islands Petroleum also operates bulk fuel depots in Rabaul, Kimbe, Konebada, Kavieng, Alotau, Popondetta/Oro Bay and Mt. Hagen as well as lubes and fuel distribution warehouses in Lae, Port Moresby, and Madang.
We are currently seeking to hire an experienced Draftsman for our Engineering Department who will be based at our Port Moresby office. Port Moresby and Lae Residents are encouraged to apply. The incumbent will execute all drafting tasks assigned by the Engineering Team as needed.
The Role & Responsibilities
- Develop plans and specifications according to clients’ needs.
- Prepare accurate and detail technical drawings complying to project requirements and industry standard.
- Convert sketches and drawings from engineers into technical designs.
- Provide a detailed analysis of the technical drawings for smooth project execution.
- Create drawings with materials list for the project.
- Create visual guidelines for construction purposes.
- Use computer-aided design software (CAD) for the execution of plans and designs.
- Assist to create As-Built drawings post project completion
- Specify the details of the project through drawings and relevant materials.
- Communicate with engineers and incorporate knowledge gained into drawings.
- Prepare, review and redrafting alongside the engineering team.
- Identify and communicate potential design problems to the rest of the team.
- Provide report to the senior engineer and engineering manager.
- Maintain an organized record of drawings, specification and related documents
Candidate Requirements
The person we seek must have the following:
- Diploma in Architecture, Drafting or Engineering or related field from a recognized university, technical institute or college.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Drafter or a similar role in the Engineering Department preferably in the petroleum industry.
- Knowledge of oil/gas industry piping standards and relevant codes,
- Proven safety track record.
- Supervisory experience favorable but not essential
- Proficient in using CAD and AutoCAD software.
- Knowledge of 3D and 2D modelling tools.
- Computer Skills (MS Office)
- Ability to work well within a team environment.
- Ability to draw manually favorable, but not essential.
- Good communication skills.
- Must be organized and methodical and be a high consistent performer with sound and responsible work habits & practices.
- Able to effectively and accurately perform drafting services as required and according to standards

- Must be prepared to travel within PNG.
