Position Overview

The Drill Bit Rig Technician manages the collection, inspection, replenishment, and inventory of drilling consumables across underground mining operations. The role supports daily rig servicing, drill bit refurbishment, quality control, and safe, efficient service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect used drill bits and replenish consumables at underground drill rigs daily.
• Complete rig servicing records and track consumable movements.
• Deliver worn drill bits for sharpening and return refurbished stock to the rigs.
• Monitor inventory levels, storage, and stock identification.
• Identify wear patterns, equipment issues, and opportunities to improve drilling performance.
• Maintain and inspect service vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• Follow site safety procedures, use required PPE and maintain housekeeping standards.
• Comply with mining regulations and environmental requirements.

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience in an underground mining environment.
• Understanding of underground drilling equipment and consumables.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail and a customer-focused attitude.
• Current driver's license.
• Ability to perform manual handling tasks and work underground in confined spaces.
• Flexibility to work rotating rosters and shifts.

Desirable Qualifications

• Certificate II or III in Engineering, Mechanical, or a related trade.
• Previous drilling experience.
• Current First Aid certificate.
• Forklift license, underground mining inductions, and relevant site competencies or statutory certifications.

Key Knowledge and Skills

• Underground drilling methods and drill bit wear patterns.
• Drill consumable maintenance and inventory management.
• Mining safety procedures, manual handling, and equipment maintenance.

Physical Requirements

• Safely handle and lift drill steels and drill bits.
• Work in confined underground environments and stand for extended periods.
• Be available for rotating rosters and shifts.

Licenses and Certifications

• Current driver's license.
• Forklift license.
• Underground mining inductions and site-specific competencies.
• Statutory mining certifications required.
