Role Purpose and Scope
The driver is part of the supply chain team and plays an essential role in ensuring that all Save the Children vehicles and fleet are utilised, managed, and maintained in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner. The driver is primarily responsible for providing safe and secure transport for all Save the Children staff, visitors, and partners as needed and requested in line with Save the Children’s transport and vehicle use policy, as well as its safety and security policy and management guidelines. The driver is also responsible for making sure that all Save the Children vehicles (and other fleet) are well maintained, managed, and secured in line with SC policies, and in an efficient and cost-effective manner. If time permits, the driver may be assigned other minor administrative and/or logistical tasks in addition to driving.
Key Areas of Accountability
The Driver / Logistics Assistant will be responsible for the following:
- Ensure the safe transport of personnel and goods across Save the Children’s programmes and operations, always maintaining safe driving practices, and within designated speed limits.
- Ensure that passengers adhere to vehicle safety protocols, such as consistently wearing seatbelts, and preventing distraction or other risks to the driver’s concentration.
- Avoid talking or texting while driving; ensure that phone is fully charged and with credit at all times.
- Ensure that vehicles are parked in safe and secure locations, and when outside of SC offices, always ensuring attendance to vehicles.
- Ensure vehicle logbooks and other documentation are well maintained and accurate at all times; and assist with vehicle mileage and data entry reports at month end as requested.
- Conduct daily checks on vehicles to ensure that all basic functions are working properly and notify the field manager or supply chain team immediately if any issues are observed.
- Work with the supply chain team and field manager to ensure that vehicles are regularly maintained according to mileage or driving time, in line with manufacturer requirements.
- Maintain appropriate protocols when navigating vehicles and passengers through checkpoints.
- In the event of any accident or security incident, ensure that all personnel are as safe as possible and communicate immediately with the nearest SC office as well as the Security Coordinator.
- Assist the supply chain and security teams to ensure that all vehicles have proper equipment for repairing tyres, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and other essential equipment.
- Help ensure that all goods transported have accurate waybills and other required documentation.
- Adherence to all Save the Children policies, including Code of Conduct, Safeguarding, Fraud, etc.
- Provide logistical and admin support as needed and requested to program and office operations.
Person Specification
Required qualifications, experience, skills & competencies
- Some formal education qualifications; demonstrated English literacy skills
- Class 6 drivers’ license
- 5+ years driving experience, preferably some of this with an international NGO
- Knowledge of basic mechanical maintenance and care of vehicle
- Able to work effectively, collaboratively and harmoniously in a team environment.
- Able to attend to basic vehicle maintenance and checks.
- Regularly applies safety and security considerations in work activities.
- Flexible/willingness to perform variety of tasks and expand responsibilities as needed
- Good English and Tok-Pisin communication skills.

You will make an impact by:
- Safe Transport & Driving Practices – Safely transport personnel and goods, follow traffic rules, designated speed limits, and ensure passenger safety protocols are observed at all times.
- Vehicle Care & Maintenance – Conduct daily checks, report issues promptly, and coordinate with supply chain/field managers for scheduled servicing and repairs.
- Documentation & Reporting – Maintain accurate logbooks, mileage records, waybills, and assist with monthly reporting as required.
- Emergency & Security Compliance – Respond appropriately to accidents or incidents, follow checkpoint protocols, and ensure vehicles are equipped with safety and repair equipment.
- Support & Policy Adherence – Provide logistical/admin support when required and comply with Save the Children’s policies, including Code of Conduct and safeguarding standards.
This role requires:
