WaterAid’s vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation. WaterAid has been operating in Papua New Guinea (PNG) since 2004, working with local partners and the government to increase access to gender sensitive, socially inclusive and climate resilient water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services. WaterAid PNG’s geographic focus is on the National Capital District, and Central Province in the Southern Region and East Sepik Province.

WaterAid works through supporting local organisations and government authorities to design and demonstrate appropriate and sustainable WASH programs. WaterAid also seeks to influence policy change through government and other key sector actors to secure and protect the right of poor people to safe, affordable water and sanitation services.

Position Summary

The Driver is to assist with driving of WaterAid vehicle within Wewak and project areas for project implementation.

The Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting goods, materials, or passengers to designated locations. This role requires adherence to all traffic laws and company policies, maintaining the vehicle in good working order, and providing excellent customer service when applicable. The Driver must be reliable, punctual, and possess strong navigational skills.

Key Performance Areas/Accountabilities

  • Drive competently and safely adhering to traffic rules.
  • Take the responsibility for the security, care and safety of his passengers.
  • To be on time and assist with WaterAid PNG Wewak office runs that includes quote collection, mail delivery, shopping etc.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, checking fluid levels, tires, lights, brakes, and other essential components.
  • Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption, delivery times, and any incidents.
  • Monitor periodic servicing, including organizing servicing and turning at service centre. This is done at times required.
  • Cleaning of the office vehicles.
  • Comply with all WaterAids policies and procedures.

Qualification, Skills & Attributes

  • Valid Class 6 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • 3 years professional driving experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of local traffic laws and routes.
  • Strong navigational and time management skills.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Problem solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.

Level of contact with children

The position will be required to maintain WaterAid child safeguarding principles and

standards always.
